Selection Process

Reviews, Reliability, Price, Warranty, Research from shopping around the web & contacts. Used mostly solar quotes and some of My Energy Guide. More recently Solar Choice look good as recommended by the Electric Viking of youtube notoriety. Go Solar Mackellar web and kitchen table conversations are a great source of current information.

Reason for Selection

Compiling our reviews on reliability, Price and Warranty confirmed to go with reliable and reputable product and Brands.

Outcome

Enjoying a fully electric treehouse in an urban rainforest and are amazed at our new relationship with Home Power. We charge our Electric Vehicle from our PV system virtually for Free (Well ok we paid in advance for the system but after about 6 yrs payback then it’s fully for Free). We love the novelty of not dreading an Electricity bill and nearly all electrical usage is “guilt Free”. We have even bought some new electric appliances including a mist sprayer to enjoy on those Hot days where we have excess electricity. A concept we’re getting used to. In Summer we can use our Heat Pump Air-conditioning on whichever levels we choose to get the temperature to a comfortable degree. In winter we channel any spare electricity into our sub-floor heating that acts like a heat battery particularly on sunny cold days. Our full year review shows that with just one home battery we are 95% self-sufficient with our power needs, the balance is bought from Green energy sources as required. We are largely “Black-out free” too as the system is designed to continue to battery back-up within a micro-second of interruption. Prior to our PV/Battery system we were concerned for both cost and Carbon emissions from the Fossil Fuel used, now we are largely removed from this equation. As an added bonus our energy suppliers Amber have a household energy trading system that can actually make you money. Not only are our monthly bills at a minimum, they are more often in credit. 8 out of 12 were in credit, a total of $400 credit for the full year.

What I would do differently

As significant subsidies are now in place for NSW & other states, installing Solar PV and battery together makes good sense.
